What is a Canada Lands Surveyor (CLS)?

A CLS is a federally licensed land surveyor authorized to work on Canada Lands, including:

  • Indigenous reserves and treaty lands

  • National parks and protected heritage areas

  • Offshore areas governed by Canada

  • Lands owned or managed by the federal government

CLS surveys are required for property transfers, developments, subdivisions, and infrastructure projects on these lands and must be completed by a licensed professional under the Canada Lands Surveyors Act.

As Ottawa’s top indigenous land surveyors, our team includes certified CLS professionals who deliver precise, regulation-compliant surveys with cultural awareness and respect.

When You Need a CLS Survey

You’ll likely need a Canada Lands Survey if you are:

  • Buying, leasing, or developing land on reserve or federal property

  • Working with Indigenous communities on housing or infrastructure projects

  • Completing a legal subdivision, easement, or title registration on federal lands

  • Managing land for a government agency or a crown corporation

We ensure every CLS survey meets strict standards set by the Surveyor General Branch and is ready for federal submission or registry.
